Newly Released Ciders on Tap!

Out of the Woods Winery has released two new apple ciders under the brand Cider Hound. Both are made from apples grown in Bayfield, Wisconsin. We fermented the Raspberry Rosé with a wine yeast to bone dry, and then back-sweetened it with orange blossom honey and cane sugar. The reward? Fresh raspberries on the nose, with tart apple and raspberry on the palate, finishing slightly sweet. We fermented the Cranberry Kiss with a beer yeast that accentuates the apple esters, both on the nose and the palate. We added just enough whole cranberries during fermentation to offer a hint of cranberry on the finish. The result is an off-dry cider with aromas and flavors of fresh squeezed apple cider topped off with a cranberry kiss. Available on tap and in growlers to go.

Our Past

Out of the Woods Winery is a new take on an old dream.  Long-time visitors to Hayward are familiar with HookStone Winery, founded over twelve years ago by Richard Halajcsik, who operated the winery under the motto, "Bringing Nappa to the North Woods."  HookStone had a long and successful run until Mr. Halajcsik's passing in January, 2017.  Purchased in the fall of 2017, HookStone Winery is open once again under new management and a new name: Out of the Woods Winery.  Stop in and check out our take on life's simple pleasures: Good Company, Craft Drinks, and Hot Eats.

 

Our Present

Out of the Woods Winery is a MacLaughlin Family collaboration. We are open and serving wine for tastings, by the glass and by the bottle.  We have a selection of wine, cider and mead from wineries in Wisconsin and all over the world. We’ve recently started making our own wines and ciders as well. If you are a fan of the ol’ Hookstone red wines, we’ve got the Cabin Cab-Zin Blend, the Musky Merlot and the Panfish Port-sytle in bottles and available for sale. We’ll be bottling the Sunfish Petite Sirah and, Northern Pinot Noir in the next week or so. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, so plan a trip! We’d love to see you. Feeling peckish? Try a flatbread pizza, a meat and cheese plate, a hot pretzel or baked brie.  Take a load off - stop by for bite, a glass of wine and good company.
